Type in your preferred keyword in a search engine. Look at each of the results. Are the titles consistent with the keyword?
Are the keywords appearing, not just in the titles, but also in the results themselves?
Are the keywords, especially in the order in which you are typing them, coming up in the results?

Search Engine Spider
The fourth band final basic rule is not to confuse the search engine spiders. When a search engine spider/crawler reaches your site it looks at the html only. It cannot recognize flash animation or Java script, so if you want to have your site well optimized, keep off the fancy stuff. The algorithm (a mathematical formula aka spider aka crawler) will check your Meta tags for any useful information that could help them. The meat tags are not normally used directly, but just for an indication. It is wise to include them.
The search engine spider/crawler then goes to the top left column and works down it, then the next column and so on. It regards anything in H1 tags as being important, so the first text it should come across should be the headline, which should be the keyword,....
